Welcome to The Dine, Wine & Spirits Show NOLADrinks Edition with host, Bryan Dias.

We kick-off the show talking more about Tales of the Cocktail and the interviews we feature today. We also detail this weekend’s music happening – Satchmo SummerFest taking place at the Old US Mint Building in honor of New Orleans great, Louis Armstrong!

We begin our interviews, all of which feature producers from Mexico, with Larry Smith of Casa d’Aristi distillery located on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mérida. It is a family-owned operation founded in 1935 that still show a deep connection to the Mayan tradition of the region. We taste three of their liqueurs – Huana – made from Guanabana, Kalani – made from fermented fresh coconut milk blended with pure Mexican sugar cane rum, and their Xtabentún – an anisette that also blends honey with rum. It’s an interesting tasting and conversation.

Then, Juan Pablo Gonzalez, CEO/founder of Miel de Tierra Mezcal joins the show. He shares his passion and love of tradition of agave distillates. We taste some great stuff including their Mezcal, which is very unique and unlike many you have tried.

We close out the interviews with Graciela Gonzalez, Tequila Ambassador for Destilería Gonzalez Gonzalez. We talk about her family history, including four generations in the business. Her dad, Rodolfo, is the master distiller. We taste their Exotico Blanco and their El Mayor Reposado. Graciela also touches on her role as a woman working in the Tequila business.

We close out the show talking about the sad passing of David Montes de Oca, proprietor of Tacqueria Chilangos in Kenner. They were the top winner at this past spring’s Top Taco NOLA event. We discuss Coolinary Month here in New Orleans – a great chance to sample a huge number of restaurants in town for a great price all-month long.
