Three-year starting defensive tackle Brian Young of the New Orleans Saints is recovering from a fractured bone in his right foot incurred earlier this month after stepping on a rock while jogging in Florida.
Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis revealed the injury in a question and answer session on the New Orleans Saints website. The 30-year old Young is expected to miss time when the Saints open training camp in Jackson July 27. Young is optimistic, saying that he expects to return to work within two or three weeks from the time he gets the cast off of his foot on Monday, July 23.
Defensive tackle has been considered a thin position for depth for New Orleans. The Saints signed veteran Kendrick Clancy to bolster the position, which includes 12-year veteran Hollis Thomas, veteran backup Rodney Leisle, and Antwan Lake.
The only other Saints player not expected to be ready for the start of training camp is veteran safety and special teams star Steve Gleason, who is recovering from a knee injury.
