Slidell, LA - (WGSO) Rick Barrett - The American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit today claiming a likeness of Jesus in the Slidell City Court lobby is a violation of the separation of church and state.
The suit was filed after City Court Judge James Lamz refused to comply with a request from the ACLU to remove the picture. It also wants the court to remove wording beneath the picture that reads, "To Know Peace, Obey These Laws."
The ACLU says it filed the suit after someone complained about the picture. That person is not identified by the ACLU.
Last Saturday, Judge Lamz announced the picture will stay up until a federal judge orders it removed. Lamz believes the picture does not violate the Constitution. |
