BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) _ The idea of giving Road Home applicants another $7,500 to help cover the costs of storm shutters and other measures to protect their homes from future storms has gained some traction.
he Louisiana Recovery Authority hasn't committed to start the $600 million Individual Mitigation Measures program. But the LRA board voted yesterday to ask the federal government for the right to pay the money to Road Home applicants without regard to the 150,000 dollar cap on grants. The state now will wait for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to review the request. If approved, the money would be available to reimburse homeowners for mitigation work, such as storm shutters, roof tie-downs, elevated heating and air conditioning equipment and more. The mitigation program had been put on hold amid concerns about whether the Road Home had enough funding for rebuilding and buyout grants. |
