BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Governor Bobby Jindal has signed into law legislation that would ban government funding in Louisiana for what is sometimes called ``therapeutic cloning.'' The practice involves taking a woman's donated egg cell, removing the chromosomes and replacing them with the chromosomes of a donor skin cell or other non-reproductive cell. Theoretically, the resulting cell could be stimulated to develop embryonic stem cells for medical research. Opponents of the practice say the process creates a human life that is destroyed when stem cells are removed. |
