In Deepak Chopra's new book The Third Jesus he talks about how difficult is is to follow Jesus's teaching of "turning the other cheek". He goes on to say there are three different ways to look at the Son of Man.
One, the barefoot man walking along the shores of Gallilee teaching goodness and love. Second , the iconic image projected by Church dogma which may be a more rigid interpretation based on tradition , fear & ritualistic fellowship. And thirdly, the new age Jesus , which is being redefined by everyone from Oprah to Rev. Wright. In the lessons of my own spiritality I find solice in that barefoot teacher and take comfort in knowing that if I turn my cheek and pray for my enemies most will fall at God's will and in his time. Confusus said "Sit by river bank long enough to watch enemies comes floating by". In my life, no matter how hard I try to do good I have aquired some dangerous and powerful foes. Though my tough street education coupled with a German , Scotch & French heritage and a Christian name derived from the Persian race. I have been known to be quite a warrior at times. However, in my adult years , I have sat with patience along the bank of the river and sure enough there they go. My powerful enemies are floating face down. I don't mind the wait as I am full of the abundance of God's Grace . Also, most river banks are quite breathtaking and peacefull and don't forget that we have two cheeks. If they choose to continue striking...only Jesus can save them. And then and only then will we be brothers again. |
