I really can't say if I've ever had a Sazerac cocktail. I know it contains bitters made by the Peychaud family and that they are still in business since several decades ago.
I do not even know if my dad Benny Cyrus liked them while he was a busboy at the Roosevelt Hotel in the thirties The same Hotel now called the Fairmont which was the home of the Sazerac Bar but has yet to re-open since Katrina. Benny was never a big drinker but, he liked Dixie beer and a good port wine. I do know that he said Governor Huey Long who was a bad tipper spent a lot of time there and he was famous for another concoction called the Ramos Gin Fizz. I remember turning eighteen and drinking a stack of Banana Banchees. I guessed I liked sugar more than alcohol. --- Well,in my humble opinon if we must have a State drink it should have the following ingredients: 'Bernie Banshee' A shot of New Orleans Rum, A few Ponchartula Strawberries, A a few shots of Satsuma Juice, Some Blueberries from Covington, A teaspoon or two or three (I do like sweet things) of Louisiana Bee Honey and the ultimate ingredient a drop of Louisiana Hot Sauce! |
