Good morning, and welcome to our weekly newsletter from your friends at WGSO, 990 AM. We are pleased to provide this weekly update on the people that make WGSO a success while we seek to make WGSO more accessible to you in every manner.
WEEKLY ACCOMPLISHMENTS WGSO had another banner week. Jeff Crouere had a field day on a daily basis with the presidential race, talking about Oprah's New Age approach, Michelle Obama's lack of pride in America, and John McCain's alleged inappropriate behavior with a lobbyist from years ago. He also got Ray Nagin's outburst on Channel 4 on the air quickly. Jeff also visited with former U.N. Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter. Ed Clancy landed an interview with United States Senator Mary Landrieu live in-studio and will visit with Charles Rice, the former CAO for Ray Nagin this afternoon. Bernie Cyrus also waxed elegant on Ray Nagin and inserted his own political commentary to the words of Nagin in the process. Bernie also visited with former Saint Brad Edelman on football and the art of photography. Ken Trahan delved into the Cox vs. Charter dispute with regard to Cox Sports Television with Rod Mickler, Regional Vice President of CST and broke stories on the Hornets trade with the Rockets, the hiring of Frank Cazeaux as head football coach at St. Martin's, and the resignation of Tim Burns as soccer coach at Archbishop Rummel. Terry Easley, Jude Young, and Ed Clancy continue to put out outstanding information as part of the WGSO Morning News Hour (7-8 AM) and the WGSO News at Noon (Noon-1 PM) with assistance from Joe Luna, Meredith Mendez, Dave Brannon, and Mandy Hamilton. Terry has had several news stories published at NOLA.com. "The Food and Beverage Block" with Chef Buster Ambrosia and Tim McNally (Wine Show) on Sundays continues to bring excellence to the airwaves from 9 AM-1 PM. With spring beckoning, it is a good idea to get all of your gardening tips on the Garden Party with Dainya Jay, the "Parish accent commercial girl" on the Garden Party Saturday mornings at 8 AM. WGSO offers the final Loyola regular season basketball game of the season Saturday at 4:45 PM against Dillard. UNO has a women's and men's doubleheader at Denver on Sunday on WGSO, 990 AM and at WGSO.com. In addition, the UNO baseball season is underway and WGSO will have most games aired as the Privateers attempt to return to the NCAA tournament. The Three Tailgaters dealt with many substantive topics and dealt with an animated listener, resulting in 13 calls during the two-hour show. Ed Daniels and Ken Trahan will have New Orleans Hornets television analyst Gil McGregor on this Saturday morning. For the latest Hollywood figures and movie reviews, listen to Movie Talk with David Dubos and Mike Fazande Saturdays at Noon. Dr. Jim Hurrell has joined Nancy Nolan to make the WGSO Pet Show a must-listen Saturdays at 9 AM. Sarah Dunn brings personality and opinions to the world or culture on Art Evolution Saturdays at 3 PM. Kevin Ford visited with LSU baseball coach Paul Maineiri on "Talkin' Tigers" this past Tuesday night. ATTA BOY Kudos to Terry Easley and the news department for getting substantive information and a high story count on the WGSO Morning News and the WGSO News at Noon. Thanks to the WGSO Sales Staff for their diligence in calling and meeting with potential clients all week long in an effort to build long-term stability to the operation. A job well-done by Jak Kuntsler, Mary Latter, and Ken for having a chance meeting with Mary Landrieu and landing her on the Ed Clancy Show. To Michael Green, who along with Ken, landed former NBA All-Star Bobby Jones on the Life Resources Bottom Line Sports Hour. To Bernie Cyrus for emceeing a debate between first congressional district Democratic Party candidates. To Jeff Crouere for hosting another highly successful "Ringside Politics with a Punch" live at the Cricket Club. To Mike Janssen for his continuing efforts to keep WGSO listeners updated during serious weather times over the past few weeks. Don't miss his "Weather Now" show Monday-Friday from 6-7 AM on WGNO-TV, ABC 26. ADDITIONS WGSO welcomes Chris Young on-board as a producer and board operator. Chris has worked previously at WRJW in Picayune and has done a solid job thus far. Don't forget the WGSO Morning News Hour from 7-8 PM with Terry Easley featuring frequent news stories, sports casts with Ken Trahan, traffic from MetroScan, weather with Mike Janssen, commentary from Paul Harvey, and many features. And don't miss the WGSO News at Noon with Ed Clancy and Terry Easley with many of the same qualities. Starting Monday, February 25, WGSO will have more news, weather, traffic, and sports information during the 5-6 PM hour of the Bernie Cyrus Show to provide you with what you are seeking on the drive home. GET WELL To the father of Jeff Crouere, to Don Trahan, Ken's uncle, to Mike Starr, who is recovering from back surgery, and Terry Easley (unspoken) for healing. Also, to all of our staff members who have battled cold and flu-symptoms of late.
