WGSO NEWSLETTER FOR FRIDAY, JANUARY 25th PDF Print E-mail
By Ken Trahan
Friday, January 25 2008
Good day, and welcome to our weekly newsletter from your friends at WGSO, 990 AM. We are pleased to provide this update on the people that make WGSO what it is while revealing more about our personalities and hard-working employees.

WEEKLY ACOMPLISHMENTS
Congratulations to Jeff Crouere (Weekdays--8-Noon) for an outstanding Ringside Politics With A Punch presentation at the Cricket Club on January 17 with Becky Allen, Ian Hoch, Pres Kabacoff, Reggie Reginelli, Dave Treen, Vince Vance, and Lee Zurik. The shows regularly sell out and provide positive feedback and biting commentary from many civic leaders. Jeff was also a big hit speaking to the St. Ann's Men's Club in Metairie.
Kudos to Bernie Cyrus (Weekdays 3-6 PM) for being "the man" for the Krewe of Mona Lisa Moon Pie Parade in Slidell January 26.
Ditto to Ed Clancy (Weekdays Noon-3 PM) for being the "Mayor" of the same parade and to Dainya Jay (Saturdays 8-9 AM) for being a Princess in the parade.
Speaking of Ed Clancy, Ed's birthday was a big smash on the air this past Thursday, with many surprising guests checking in and a visit from Aaron Neville, who was also celebrating his birthday. Thanks to William Taylor for the "this is your life" segment recollecting Ed's many professional stops.
Who was that man on the local news seen at the Suite Home hotel during coverage of a murder? That was our own Rudy Dixon, showing his nose for news! Terry Easley may have a new reporter in his midst!
Speaking of Terry Easley (News Director), he steps in for Bernie Cyrus to ride in the Eve Parade as WGSO's Mardi Gras Parade coverage continues with live reports from throughout the entire metropolitan New Orleans area with our personalities riding in the north shore parades.
Congratulations to Emmanuel Pepis (Prep Plus--Fridays at 8 PM/Fantasy Frenzy--Saturdays at 5 PM) for coaching his basketball team to the New Orleans Holy Trinity Cathedral Greek Orthodox Youth of America rally basketball championship. In addition, Emmanuel was honored with the Archangel Michael Award, which is given to a person who represents the loving spirit and generous commitment of a Christ-centered life.
UNO had their biggest crowd of the year for their home game with Western Kentucky and Ken Trahan (Nightly 6 PM/Saturdays at 10 AM) did his All Access Show live from The "Chamber of Horrors" prior to Mike Wagenheim's call of the game. Unfortunately, the Privateers lost the game but are still 14-6 on the year.
The Prep Plus Crew (Fridays at 8 PM), including George and Emmanuel Pepis and Johnny Marchese will have WGSO's Ron Brocato of the Clarion Herald on tonight (Friday, January 25) to talk about the LHSAA meetings in Baton Rouge and the impact on schools around the state and locally.
Talkin' Tigers with Kevin Ford (Tuesdays--8 PM) had Mike Scarbarough of tigerbait.com on his show to talk recruiting.

ATTA BOY
Michael Green and Ken Trahan had LSU baseball coach Paul Maineiri on with them to talk faith and sports on the Life Resources Bottom Line Sports Hour. Speaking of Michael Green, congratulations on being able to sell the former Faith Church property in New Orleans East which was flooded out by Hurricane Katrina. The church continues to meet at La Quinta in Slidell and at the Clearview Mall in Metairie on Sunday Mornings and they are closing in on an announcement of a new church location on the north shore.
Congratulations to WGSO's Archie Manning for his son, Eli's accomplishment at leading the New York Giants to the Super Bowl. This, on the heels of Peyton Manning winning the Super Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts a year ago.
And don't forget our Saturday schedule with Dainya Jay and the Garden Party at 8 AM, Nancy Nolan and the WGSO Pet Show at 9 AM, The Three Tailgaters Show with Ed Daniels, Archie Manning and Ken Trahan at 10 AM, Movie Talk with Dave Dubos and Mike Fazande at Noon, Art Evolution with Sarah Dunn at 3 PM, and Fantasy Frenzy with Scott Tracy, Brandon Rizzuto, George and Emmanuel Pepis, and Johnny Marchese at 5 PM.
Thanks to Brittany Cooper for catering to the needs of all within the WGSO community.

ADDITIONS
WGSO will be debuting a pair of news hours beginning February 6. The WGSO Morning News will air from 7 to 8 AM while the WGSO News at Noon will air from Noon-1 PM. Stay tuned for details.
WGSO News and Programming are pleased to have Mandy Hamilton helping to gather and produce news and to assist in booking guests for talk show hosts. Mandy is a Slidell native and resident who attends Delgado.
WGSO Sales is proud to have Elliott Everard and Kirk Johnson as part of Harry Finch's outstanding team with Nathan Ocmond, Brigit Kirchofer, and Felder Iavarone. They have hit the ground running which is why we seldom see them at the station!

NEW SPONSORS
WGSO welcomes our newest sponsors, including Brendan's Air Conditioning and Heating Service, NOLA Lending Group, Paretti Mazda, Top Fuel, Curves, Blue Star, Gemini Good Year Tire, Homes By Hunt, Woodhouse Day Spa, Purple Armadillo, Alpine Clocks, Redline Exhaust, and Levy's Furniture.

GET WELL
Our prayer requests go out to the family of Emmanuel and George Pepis, who lost their grandfather last week, and to Jayson Lee, who lost his father to a battle with cancer last week. Please keep Bernie Cyrus (unspoken request), the father of Jeff Crouere (health) and Mike Starr (health) in your prayers.
