Good morning and welcome to our weekly newsletter from your friends at WGSO, 990 AM. We are pleased to provide this update on the people that make WGSO what it is while revealing more about our personalities and hard-working employees.
WEEKLY ACCOMPLISHMENTS Kudos to Ed Daniels (Three Tailgaters Show--Saturdays from 10 AM-Noon) for an outstanding special/preview of the BCS National Title game on WGNO-TV, ABC 26, where Ed serves as sports director. The program aired on Friday, January 4. Jeff Crouere had an amusing, cutting commentary on New Orleans and New Year's Resolutions on his Ringside Radio Show (8 AM-Noon Monday-Friday) and on his television show of the same name on WLAE-TV (Friday night--8:30 PM). Ed Clancy dug into the history of Mardi Gras and a preview of the 2008 Mardi Gras with historian-supreme Arthur Hardy while allowing his daughter to modernize the music on his show (Noon-3 PM--Monday-Friday). Welcome to the 21st century, Ed! Bernie Cyrus had substantive discussion with Democratic operatives and declared himself a Pro-Life Democrat! On All-Access, Ken Trahan (Weeknights--6-8 PM) visited with Ivan Maisel of ESPN.com on his column LSU being a deserving two-loss national champion. Tim McNally (Wine Show--Sundays from 11 AM-1 PM) continues with outstanding guests, including a visit with Dr. Barry Gump and Chip Casidy, professors in the school of Hotel and Restaurant Management at Florida International in Miami this coming Sunday. Emanuel and George Pepis, along with Johnny Marchese continue with Prep Plus (Friday nights--8-10 PM) talking high school sports year-round. And don't miss Meredith Mendez on Sunday Source (Sundays--5-7 PM) as she recaps the week's top stories and visits with the top news makers of the week. ADDITIONS WGSO is proud of its newest programming addition, "Talkin' Tigers" with Kevin Ford of the LSU Network (Tuesday nights--8 PM). The show debuted this past Tuesday with Kevin's first guest, former Tiger great and current broadcaster, Doug Moreau. You may have noticed the latest addition from "The Voice" of WGSO, Mike McCann. It is simple. It is two words. It is "The Bridge," segueing from commercials to programming and completely in-tune with what WGSO strives to be--a bridge between the North shore and the South shore, the East Bank and the West Bank, Jefferson Parish and the River Parishes, Orleans and St. Bernard. WGSO seeks to build bridges and connect everyone in our metropolitan area as one, growing our relevance, importance, and influence in the state and in the southern region as we seek to rebuild the Greater New Orleans area in an inclusive, not an exclusionary fashion. In the area of sales, Sales Manager Harry Finch has added Elliott Everard and Kirk Johnson to his formidable staff. NEW SPONSORS Additionally, WGSO welcomes our newest sponsors, Christwood Premier Retreat Community, The New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon, O' Neal's Auto Mart, Reggie Laurent Law Office, Sterling Properties, DWI Attorney Troy Broussard, and Zoom Tech Automotive. It is great to have you as part of the WGSO family and investing in our very bright future! ATTA BOY To Emanuel Pepis (Prep Plus--Fridays from 8-10 PM), for stepping in seamless fashion to produce Jeff Crouere's Show. To Dainya Jay (The Garden Party--Saturdays from 8-9 AM), for changing her schedule to help with production and our morning needs. To George Pepis (Prep Plus--Fridays from 8-10 PM), for displaying unselfishness in yielding significant hours as a consummate team player. To Bernie Cyrus (3-6 PM--Monday-Friday), who serve as King of the Krewe of Mona Lisa Moon Pie Parade in Old Town Slidell on Saturday, January 26. To Dainya Jay, who will serve as a Princess in the Krewe of Mona Lisa Moon Pie Parade. To Ed Clancy (Monday-Friday--Noon-3 PM), who will serve as the honorary "Mayor" of Moon Pie. To our esteemed Business Manager Mary Latter, and our Sales Manager, Harry Finch, for putting on a first-class party with great food and beverages. The shades were cool, Mary. I kept my blue pair! To General Manager Jak Kunstler, for providing opportunity and fostering a positive atmosphere with success inevitably resulting at WGSO. To Felder Iavarone, for keeping her "Go, Georgia Bulldog" cheers at a minimum before and after the Sugar Bowl game. To Rudy Dixon and Britanny Cooper for keeping us ticking on a daily basis with traffic, office, and supply matters. To Terry Easley, Jude Young, Meredith Mendez, and Joe Luna for continuing to upgrade our news effort, stories, content, and sound. To our originator, Mike Starr, for "coming home" to our party this past week. GET WELL Our prayer requests are for the father of Jeff Crouere, who is battling kidney and prostate problems, for Jayson Lee's father, who continues to battle cancer, for Mike Starr and his heart issues, and for all of our employees who have been battling cold and flu-symptoms for weeks.
