New Year's Eve house fire may have been intentional PDF Print E-mail

LACOMBE, La. - Was it arson or was it an accident? Lacombe firefighters are investigating a house fire that started on New Year’s Eve from mysterious circumstances.

Fire District Three rang in the New Year with a bang as they fought their first fire of 2008, which claimed two rooms on the second story of an abandoned house, as the cause remains a mystery.

“This would be a good time to set a house on fire with all the fireworks going and blame it on the fireworks thing.” Lacombe Fire Chief Chuck Flynn said.

Flynn told WGSO the house, which was situated on Pine Bay Lane, had been abandoned since Hurricane Katrina. So if it was arson, the perpetrator may have just been looking to start the New Year with a boom.

Flynn expects more information to be forthcoming soon.
