MANDEVILLE, La. - It’s that time again. The Louisiana State Police are going to be out in force on the roadways tonight so unless your New Year’s resolution is to go to jail, you should follow the laws and don’t drink and drive.
From the four corners of St. Tammany Parish, State Police Troop L is cracking down on alcohol use within its borders to make sure the only explosions this New Year weekend are from fireworks. “We don’t want to put anybody in jail, but we want to deter people from getting behind the wheel impaired,” Trooper First Class Louis Calato said. “The only designated driver is the one that doesn’t drink anything; we don’t want a designated sipper.”
Troopers tell WGSO they will be watching the roadways intently this holiday season after a string of fatalities that took four lives earlier this week.
State Police will also have an eye on reckless drivers and motorists who choose not to wear a seatbelt.
But, most importantly, local authorities want you to know this: don’t drink and drive unless you want to celebrate New Year’s with other convicts. |
