COVINGTON, La. - If you used the fire extinguisher on the Christmas ham, don’t feel bad. While you were salvaging your Christmas meal, Covington firefighters were barreling toward two huge holiday fires.
“The fire spread so fast, by the time it got into the house from the garage, it tore through it like wildfire,” District 12 Spokesman Gwen Cancienne said.
A house and barn were reportedly damaged in the fires. Cancienne said the blaze reduced the Roger Hill Road barn to a smoldering cinder and the Highway 25 house was severely damaged. So there were bells ringing in Covington Christmas day, they just weren’t jingle bells.
Authorities are pleased with the response from other fire districts to the emergency and attribute it to the communication the new Unifire system in St. Tammany Parish has delivered. |
