SLIDELL, La. - Police believe two men they now have behind bars are responsible for more than 100 home burglaries in four parishes across the metro area.
Officers say these burglars were so brazen that when one of them came into the station for questioning, he had stolen money in his pocket, some two dollar bills that he had taken from a house in Slidell. Kendall Jackson, 23, and Danny Shipp, 37, are both currently in the St. Tammany Parish Jail and charged with five counts of simple burglary in the Slidell area. Jackson was also booked on charges of armed robbery from a home-invasion robbery on Dec. 7. Burglary victim David Otto said, “I’ve lived here 35 years, first time. I was flabbergasted.” Hitting normally quiet neighborhoods all over Slidell, some houses side by side, police say the pair of burglars targeted empty houses, always with the same M.O.; according to Slidell Police Chief Freddy Drennan, “These guy’s method of operation was they walked up to a door and just kicked it in.” At Otto’s house, he said they smashed through the back utility door, “They got away with some jewelry and some old coins and some money.” Captain Mike Glasser with the NOPD said investigators believe the crimes go way beyond the ones the duo are charged with in Slidell. "There is probably in excess of 100 burglaries that stretch all the way from Kenner, through Jefferson Parish, through New Orleans, into Slidell,” said Glasser.
