MANDEVILLE, La. - If you are looking to roast some chestnuts on an open fire from your living room fireplace this Christmas, just make sure when you light it up, it won’t blow it up.

“If they haven’t had their fireplace checked with a chimney-sweep and had it cleaned with the past few years they need to go ahead and do that,” Chief Rick Tassin said. “We had a chimney fire this weekend.”

Fire Officials are encouraging district residents to use care and be aware of the increased risk of fires this time of year, after all don’t firefighters deserve a holiday too?

Authorities say residents should also keep watch on their Christmas lights to avoid additional fires as well.
