MANDEVILLE, La. - Fighting fires and containing hazardous materials occupied Mandeville’s Fire District Four most of the afternoon Saturday.
Fire District Four Chief Merrick Tassin said the fist call came in around noon from the State Police who called them out to Interstate 12 near Lacombe to contain unknown chemicals leaking from two large containers.
“It was a high alkaline material, but it wasn’t something that would hurt people if they came by it,” Tassin said. Firemen relinquished the site to DEQ when they were ordered out to 3295 E. Causeway Approach to a dental office on fire. The fire reportedly sparked from an overheating fish light. No one was injured in the incident.
Tassin said the dental office had $50,000 in damages. |
