COVINGTON, La. - As St. Tammany’s population continues to expand and equipment shortages continue to rise, fire fighting needs have grown in Covington.
Covington’s Fire District Six purchased a new engine from Slidell’s Fire District One to help combat future fire emergencies.. District Six Spokesman A.J. Bailey said the district barrowed the truck from Slidell when its reserve engine was down for repair. When the district went to return the engine, Slidell offered to sell it to them.
“It will be a backup engine and this will make us compliant with PIAL, the insurance rating people,” Bailey said. “It keeps the insurance ratings down.” Bailey said Fire District Six paid less than $5,000 for the vehicle. Fire trucks of this kind usually sell for nearly $200,000.
The truck will bring the district up to reserve truck code while at the same time providing better protection for the community. |
