MANDEVILLE, La - A new monthly self-defense seminar for adult men and women and hosted by Fire District 12 will kick-off Saturday.
Seminar teacher and District 12 fireman Clint Ward said the strategy of the classes is to create as realistic a scenario as possible so students can confidently defend themselves.
To that end they will attack a full-body padded attacker with all of their strength without fear of injuring him.
“It’s all about empowering a person with experience and then the skills to make that experience a positive thing, so that they aren’t so afraid,” Ward said. Ward has been practicing martial arts for 20 years and conducting self-defense classes for the past eight.
He added the seminar is open to all adults at a cost of $69 and starts at 1:30 p.m. at Phil May Karate at 541 N. Causeway Blvd. in Mandeville. |
