GOODBEE, La. - A new antenna tower is coming to Goodbee with the promise of dramatically improving communications since Fire Protection District 13 and Verizon Wireless signed an agreement for the new construction near the Highway 1085 station.
District 13 Spokesman Clint Ory said the fire department would have had to spend nearly $100,000 to build a new antenna or relocate the old one.
“We get the antenna space and $1,100 a month,” Ory said. “So the fire department not only is going to not have to spend tax dollars to put up an antenna. We’re also going to make money by leasing the space to Verizon wireless.”
The contract will grant firemen much better radio communication and boost the cellular signal of the State Police, Parish Government, 911 and all local users.
Ory believes construction on the new tower will begin soon after the first of the year. |
