State Troopers Tout Successful Holiday Weekend |

MANDEVILLE, La. - State Police Troop L hit the busy Interstate roadways during the holiday weekend taking a bite out of traffic violations and safeguarding law abiding motorists.
State Police Trooper First Class Louis Calato said the surge the State Police enforced on the busy Troop L roadways was a success and provided vital traffic enforcement during the heavily traveled weekend. Calato said the Troop expected an increase in the quantity of calls they would face during the weekend, however it was more active than he projected.
“You had the busiest shopping due to Black Friday and all that stuff. We had a lot more motorists so you would expect the public assists to go up, you know you get cars overheating,” he said. “The more motorists, the more public assists we’re going to get. But it’s a little higher than normal.”
Calato said troopers made 110 speeding stops, 42 seatbelt citations, four child restraint tickets and 176 public assists during the surge, which lasted from Wednesday to Sunday of last week.
He added the surge of troopers was part of a statewide program aimed at saving lives. |
