As we approach tonight's state quarterfinals, all five #1 seeds remain alive.

A pair of #2 seeds were beaten in the regional round, Notre Dame in 3-A (by Patterson) and St. Thomas More in 5-A (by Mandeville). One #3 seed, West Monroe in 5-A is out (by Acadiana). There are lower seed CInderellas alive in all but one class. In 1-A, it's 23rd seed Desire Street, in 3-A, that would be 23rd seed St. Louis, 4-A features 20th seed O. Perry Walker, and 5-A is 28 seeded Westgate. 2-A has held form with seeds 1 through 7 and #9 all still alive. Let's take a shot at tonight's game predictions:

1-A
**#8 Ouachita Christian over #1 Cedar Creek (the home team prevails)
**#13 West St. John over #5 Kentwood (this one's for Coach Dupont)
#3 South Plaquemines over #11 St. Edmund (no way to stop this bunch)
**#23 Desire Street over #2 Oak Grove (at home and athletic)

2-A
#1 John Curtis over #9 St. John (setting up a dream match with Evangel)
#4 Evangel over #5 Newman (too tall a task for the Greenies)
#3 Calvary Baptist over #6 Clinton (Clinton was fortunate to advance)
#2 St. James over #7 Donaldsonville (will be closer than last year's game)

3-A
#1 Parkview Baptist over #8 Amite (will be competitive)
#5 Lutcher over #4 Redemptorist (could be night's best game)
#3 Westlake over #11 E.D. White (Cards have had a great season)
#15 Patterson over #23 St. Louis (too many athletes)

4-A
#1 Shaw over #8 Eunice (Eagles adjusting without key players)
#5 Holy Cross over #20 O.P. Walker (could be lots of points here)
#3 Vandebilt Catholic over #6 Benton (could be lots of points here, too!)
#2 Bastrop over #7 Franklinton (can you say high scoring again?)

5-A
#1 Destrehan over #9 St. Paul (Wildcats can smell the Dome)
**#28 Westgate over #20 Dutchtown (The glass slipper fits)
**#14 Acadiana over #6 Rummel (Shorter week, home, healthier, but close)
**#18 Mandeville over #7 John Ehret (will be a great game)

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Enjoy, and catch the most extensive coverage of all of these games on KEN TRAHAN'S ORIGINAL PREP FOOTBALL REPORT tonight on WGSO, 990 AM, WGSO.com, NOLA.com, and the Original Network of radio stations throughout South Louisiana. Within the show, you can hear the play-by-play broadcast of Rummel vs. Acadiana live from Bill Dotson Stadium in Lafayette with Ken Trahan and Phil Greco.
