MANDEVILLE La. - State Police Troop L is ramping up their watch on the heavily traveled Interstate systems this holiday weekend in order to ensure safe transit for all motorists.
State Police Trooper First Class Louis Calato said the law enforcement agency will surge on the Interstate system starting today and that the surge would run through Sunday night. He said these actions are expressly planned to guard all travelers during a dangerous transit time.
“All the major criteria areas where we see that serious injuries or fatalities can occur in a crash, we will be targeting them very aggressively during the next four days.” He said. “It’s all about saving lives. That’s our main goal this year, to save as many lives as possible.”
Calato said motorists who will be traveling on the roadways should respect other travelers and drive responsibly. He said this surge is part of a statewide law enforcement program aimed at promoting a safer holiday season.
He urged travelers to expect crowded roadways, be courteous to other motorists and leave for the destination early to avoid a stressful and dangerous holiday weekend. |
