MANDEVILLE, La. - The Blood Center and State Police Troop L are holding a blood drive at the Troop L station on North Causeway Approach in Mandeville Tuesday to benefit six-year-old Covington resident Madelyn Egan, who is battling Leukemia.
State Police Trooper First Class Louis Calato said Egan just recently received a bone marrow transplant and will need regular blood transfusions for the next month. She has been battling the disease for the past two years.
Troop L’s Grant a Wish Coordinator Bonnie Romano said doctors believed Egan was in remission following the first round of treatments after the diagnosis. Now however the disease is threatening again.
“This is little Madelyn’s second round with Leukemia,” Romano said. “It’s been something that she has lived with. She was almost to the point where they thought she was in remission, and I think about to get the all clear, when they did some blood work and found out that it was back.”
Troop L officials are asking all healthy people above the age of 17 and at least 110 pounds to donate. Officials said they need the support of the community to help grant this wish.
Calato said donors will need picture identification and that it is necessary to eat a meal and drink fluids before donating.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. |
