COVINGTON, La. - As St. Tammany’s population continues to expand and as emergency equipment shortages continue to pop up Covington’s Fire District Six is purchasing another engine from Slidell’s Fire District One to keep up with the new pace.
District Six Fire Chief Harold Dutsch said his fire district barrowed the truck from Slidell when another of the engines was down for repair and when the district went to return the engine, Slidell offered to sell it to them.
The deal has not yet been made as both districts are continuing to negotiate the final price of the fire engine. Dutsch said that he is hopeful the two entities will be able to come to an agreement soon that will benefit the area.
“You have to have a class eight pumper at each station. We have three stations to maintain keeping an engine close to everybody,” he said. “This will be just a spare in case we have one go down again. We will have an extra engine.”
Dutsch said once the acquisition goes through, district six will have four fire engines and various other equipment to combat continuing emergencies.
He added the agreement is still in the beginning stages and that the district will have more information soon. |
