FOLSOM, La. - Fire officials in Folsom are hopeful a new one-man fire truck will be the answer to bolstering their protection capabilities while maintaining their current manpower level.
Fire District Five Lt. Bill Skinner and other fire officials believe this truck is a needed asset community that will enable it to deal with manpower shortages while still answering an increasing number of emergency calls.
Skinner said now that the engine is back from Mississippi with the new body overhaul the district will be able to rapidly finish the engine and put it into service before the year is out.
“The truck has come down with the body on it and we’re actually doing the rest of the work here. Putting the reels on it, tightening it and then it will be coming over to my shop where I am going to do all the electrical and lighting radio on it,” he said. “We’re hoping to put it to service no later than Christmas.”
Skinner said the engine will be a one-man show that will allow the district to divide its limited resources and manpower into various areas while still maintaining its commitment to protect the community.
Skinner restated his belief in this one-man truck as a serious benefit to the district. |
