MANDEVILLE, La. - Promotion and departures swept the Mandeville Police Department at last night’s city council meeting as it saw the sad retirement of one of its finest and the promotion of another to the rank of Captain.
Mandeville Police Chief Tom Buell said the officer promoted, Sgt. Ron Ruple, has now become the first officer in quite some time to hold that rank because he has served with devotion to the force for the past 17 years.
“We haven’t had a Captain in 20 years, so that was a big thing for us and for the whole police department,” Buell said. “This is a pretty big step for everybody and it changes the whole structure of the police department.”
Officer Betty Watson, a prominent city figure, also gave retirement notice at the meeting. Buell said she has been an amazing benefit to the force and is pleased she was able to retire in her chosen career.
He added, with the departure and promotion of these officers, the department will be seeing more personnel shifts in the near future. |
