FIRST ROUND PREDICTIONS PDF Print E-mail
By Ken Trahan
Friday, November 09 2007
There will be some upsets in the opening round of the playoffs. There always are. As we predicted, both Holy Cross and Higgins advanced last night though neither had an easy time doing so.

As for tonight and tomorrow, I see all five top seeds (Destrehan, Shaw, Parkview Baptist, John Curtis, and Cedar Creek) advancing without problem. Let us take a look at our predictions, including upsets, which will be noted with stars.

5-A
#1 Destrehan over West Jefferson (won't be a wipeout against a Tierney team)
#16 Carencro over Brother Martin (should be competitive but the Bears are fast)
#9 St. Paul over Pineville (Kenny Sears has done a superb job)
#5 Sulphur over Westgate (rematch game but Tors are simply better)
#12 East St. John over #21 Barbe (this may be the best game of the night in 5-A)
***#20 Dutchtown over #13 H.L. Bourgeois (faced tougher opposition)***
#4 Catholic (B.R.) over Fontainebleau (the defense is dynamite)
#3 West Monroe over Ruston  (Rebels beat the 'Kats for a second time)
#14 Acadiana over #19 Central (B.R.) (this one could be close)
#11 Hahnville over #22 Huntington (The Tigers are a sleeper to win 5-A)
#6 Rummel over #27 Thibodaux (Raiders got a wake-up call last week)
#7 John Ehret over #26 Slidell (This will be an excellent game)
#10 Byrd over #23 Captain Shreve (Yellow Jackets win rematch game)
