MADISONVILLE, La. - Millage rate renewal will be on the ballot for Madisonville’s Fire Protection District Two during the November 17 runoff voting. Fire officials are hoping the renewal will pass and provide the district with an extra ten years of revenue to protect the community.
Fire District Two Chief Mike Stein said the millage rate, which is essentially a tax rate on home and property in the district’s jurisdiction, has been the same since the early nineties and that fire officials have no intention of raising it.
“We’ve been getting the tax since 1990 so we’ve been into the tax almost 18 years now. It’s just trying to get a 10 year renewal, that’s all, no increase.” He said. “It’s just property tax that supports the fire districts and all of your fire districts have the same thing.”
Stein believes, if the renewal passes, it will continue to provide all of the necessary resources for the fire district to protect the area while placing only a moderate burden on the public. |
