Ed ClancyEvery day from 12 noon to 3 pm Ed Clancy delivers to the masses his own style of classy Louisiana humor [and no, that's not an oxymoron]. Clancy's sometimes silly, sometimes biting, Eddy-torials keep life in this delightfully unique state in perspective.    With an assist from Paul Harvey news and comment, Ed augments his list of celebrity and non celebrity guests with serious recitations called "The Poet's Corner," highlighting such works of musical magic as "Wild Thing" and "Louie Louis." Equally hilarious is his semi-regular "go for joke," department and interruptions from 'my mother, the buzzer,' who admonishes Ed when he or one of his guests uses a banished word or phrase which defiles the queen's english. [e.g. "at the end of day," "early on" and "efforting." ]

Although Ed traverses the lake called Pontchartrain in a limo with a trained, and usually sober, driver, his humility is well founded in his early life.

Ed was born in a log cabin in Syracuse , New York.

Syracuse, that’s where they think LSU is a controlled substance.

Ed majored in Radio-TV at Syracuse University.

He came to New Orleans in 1973, as anchor of WGSO-AM morning news block, [“That’s right...the ORIGINAL WGSO, in those days located on another frequency”], later serving as News Director. From 1980-83 he was WVUE-TV’s prime feature reporter, producing humor pieces on the famous and not so famous characters of New Orleans.

Ed joined WTIX-AM as News Director in 1983 and in 1985 he was named host of the WTIX morning show.

A winner of several broadcast journalism awards, Mr. Clancy hosted his own daily talk show on WWL-AM for five years. The Times-Picayune called Clancy “Talk Radio’s Top Gun.”

Over the years he became rather infamous for his political satire, especially regarding politics in Louisiana. In the mid 1970's  he invented the ED CLANCY RADIO CARTOON, which later graduated to Television (WVUE, WGNO). In these three minute lampoons Mr. Clancy generally skewered both sides of the political spectrum. Ed’s “Cartoons” have won many production and writing awards for Radio and Television.
Ed did all writing, production and a majority of the voices in the Radio Cartoons.

It was a lot of fun spoofing people like “Dutch” Morial, Edwin Edwards, and David Duke.  Now, “Dutch” is in Heaven, David is an ex-con and Edwin is a current con. Good times.

In 1991 he began “Ed Clancy’s Over The Wall Productions, ” which has produced TV shows and videos (including the “Ed Clancy TV Cartoon” seen on WGNO-TV/26).  Ed   was host --and producer –  under OTW Productions--  of a daily  talk show, “CALLING ED CLANCY,” on WLAE-TV public television. OTW also produces tourism/ industrial/governmental/ videos (Including “Buddy Stall’s Cities of the Dead: Metairie Cemetery”, as well as overseeing Ed’s numerous appearances as a Master of Ceremonies, Roaster, and lecturer on humor in Louisiana politics. He also has done numerous commercial voice overs and narrated the documentary, The Irish in New Orleans on WYES PBS New Orleans.

For 11 years was host of KENNER AMERICA’S CITY , a weekly program seen on COX CABLE CHANNEL 6, and later KTV Channel 76, co-produced by Cox and Ed’s OTW Productions.  Currently Ed is host of Jefferson Journal seen on COX 6 every week. He also writes a highly regarded column for the KENNER STAR.

He’s also does a lot of writing and was ghostwriter of the autobiography of a nationally  known South Louisiana theater owner.

Ed has two daughters, Alex 21 and Elisabeth 18.

It’s an honor to work for the people who put WGSO back on the map to re-create radio as it should be. That’s WGSO 990 AM, some of yesterday, all of today, a little bit of tomorrow. I’m proud to be a part of this great team.
