Reversing their miserable defensive performance of a week ago at home against Houston, the New Orleans Saints put the "D" in defense, smothering the Bengals offense in a 13-0 victory at Paul Brown Stadium. Dominant from the start, the Saints defense held the Bengals to a paltry 136 total yards. In 11 possessions, the Bengals punted 10 times and turned it over once. |

Unacceptable, hideous, poorous, lousy, attrocious, awful, dreadful, terrible, horrendous, just plain bad. Pick your adjective to describe the defensive performance of the New Orleans Saints in a 31-27 preseason loss to the Houston Texans in game two of the preseason. |

As the old saying used to go with regard to the now defunct Washington Senators of the American League--"first in war, first in peace, and last in the American League." The Senators were a doormat in the American League from 1901-1960 and from 1961-1971. A lack of support, largely tied to a lack of winning, enabled the franchise to relocate twice. |

As your New Orleans Saints go through training camp in Jackson, Mississippi unnecessarily (they should train at home or in Louisiana where the state and taxpayers fund them), the evaluation process begins for coaches, front office personnel and fans. Can the Saints win the NFC South? Can the Saints win the NFC? |

Growing up in the New Orleans area, I was a huge fan of American Legion baseball. Sponsored by the various American Legion posts around the metro area, American Legion baseball was a source of pride for the home-based schools who were represented. Following and supporting a sport represented by and sponsored by those wonderful folks who served their country and helped to protect our basic freedoms was downright patriotic and wholesome. |
