Nike suspends Vick contract; Reebok halts sale of No. 7 jersey PDF Print E-mail

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) _ Nike says it has suspended its contract with Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick and will pull goods with his name off the shelves at stores the company owns.

Meanwhile, Reebok says it will stop selling Vick's replica jersey at retail stores and through its Web site.

 
President Bush Wants Defense Spending Bill Before August Recess PDF Print E-mail

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - President Bush wants Congress to finish up a Defense Department spending bill, before it heads out on August recess. During a speech in Philadelphia, the president urged members of Congress to "exercise their responsibility'' and send the bill to his desk. The month-long break starts in about two weeks.

ACLU Sets Deadline PDF Print E-mail

SLIDELL,LA (AP)- The American Civil Liberties Union has set a Monday deadline for Slidell City Court officials to remove a portrait of Jesus from the court's lobby. The ACLU had set yesterday as the deadline to remove the portrait, which is included in a display that also contains the words, ``To know peace, obey these laws.'' Judge Jim Lamz received a letter from the Louisiana ACLU granting the extension until Monday.
